With almost 1000 units, the Brentwood Towers present both an incredible waste diversion opportunity and a unique set of challenges. The five towers at Brentwood have historically used centralized outdoor recycling areas, and chutes for garbage.

Through meetings with tenants, O’Shanter determined that the outdoor recycling areas were difficult for some tenants to access and were prime targets for illegal dumpers. Therefore, O’Shanter designed and constructed rooms in the basement of each building that were easily accessible year-round to all O’Shanter residents.

Located close to the laundry rooms of each building, the Recycling Rooms have space for one 6 cubic yard bin as well as bins for batteries.

The outdoor fenced enclosures that were previously used for storing recycling bins are locked and used for storage of garbage bins from the chute (once full) and recycling bins (once full) until pickup day. It should also be noted that all garbage bins in the parking garage are locked, ensuring that all garbage goes down the chutes to be compacted.

There are recycling bins in the laundry and mail rooms. We ask that these bins be used only for recycled goods from these rooms, and not as a place to deposit recycled goods from tenants’ suites. These bins will decrease our garbage output by ensuring that all junk mail goes into the recycling stream, as well as any cardboard boxes used for laundry detergent etc….
