5 & 11 Elm Avenue (Clifton Manor)

The effectiveness of 5 & 11 Elm’s waste disposal means that tenants are unlikely to see many infrastructural changes in the coming months. Because both recycling and garbage are disposed in rooms on each floor and collected by building staff, recycling is convenient for tenants and should present a great opportunity to increase diversion.
Tenants are given in-suite reusable recycling bags that make recycling easier. These bags can be used for storing recyclable materials until tenants choose to bring them out for disposal.
One issue that has been brought to O’Shanter’s attention is that tenants at 5 & 11 Elm are not folding up cardboard when they put it out for recycling. This practice takes up an excess of space and the City will only pick up cardboard that has been folded properly. It is not the job of building staff to do this, and O’Shanter hopes that tenants will co-operate and fold their cardboard properly.
There are recycling bins in the laundry and mail rooms. We ask that these bins be used only for recycled goods from these rooms, and not as a place to deposit recycled goods from tenants’ suites. These bins will decrease our garbage output by ensuring that all junk mail goes into the recycling stream, as well as any cardboard boxes used for laundry detergent etc…
