We have officially entered fall, and with the change in season comes the desire for new beginnings. As always, O’Shanter is here to help you make the most of your surroundings by transforming something old into something brand new. Here are four ways you can reorganize your apartment for a fresh fall start.

1. Hide the Shoes

One of the easiest ways to maximize your space and keep your apartment clean is to hide everyday clutter in storage baskets and cabinets. Shoes are a pertinent example of an everyday item that easily become unnecessary clutter in the home. Instead of shoving your shoes by the doorway or in a nearby wall crevice, pick up a few nice wicker baskets to separate your sneakers from your boots, or use your cabinet space for out of sight storage. By decluttering the doorway, you open up the home and create a more inviting atmosphere to welcome family and friends.

2.  Add a Seasonal Flare

If the slight chill in the air and the leaves’ change in colour have you feeling festive, ring in the new season by decorating your home with emblems of fall. Whether it be an autumnal bouquet, a bowl of seasonal gourds, or a warm colour scheme - a few decorative touches are sure to brighten up your home. The key here is discretion. Instead of overwhelming the apartment space with large colourful changes, opt for small emblems of the season such as dark wood furniture, brass pieces, or baked goods. A few pops of colour and some foliage is all you’ll need to get you in the fall mood without feeling as though you are participating in a garish theme.

3. Clean Countertops and Take Advantage of Shelves

A cluttered countertop immediately shrinks an open space by drawing your eye to the mess lying in plain sight. At the same time, it can be hard to keep track of all your belongings if they are stored away in boxes or cabinets. Moreover, shoving everything in storage leaves the home feeling impersonal and cold. As a solution, try removing the clutter from your countertops and proudly displaying it upon open shelves. This way, you can choose to organize your items by colour or pattern or opt for an eclectic mix. Whatever your preference, open cabinets keep things accessible while maintaining a sense of order within a crowded space.

4. Separate the Tech

With cords and screens strewn about every couch or tabletop, creating a home for tech is a surefire way to rid your apartment of mess. Whether it be a desk drawer, a decorative box, or an overhead cabinet, pick a spot to store all your tech when it is not in use, and stick to it. This way, you always know where your wires are, and you can rid your home of an eyesore when the workday is done.
